Security has been heightened across the New Delhi district ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament and the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) proposed “Chalo Sansad” march on Monday, with Delhi Police enforcing prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Section 163 imposed, police deny permission
The CJP has called for the march to protest alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Sachin Sharma said no permission had been sought or granted for the proposed march. He stated that Section 163 of the BNSS, which prohibits unlawful assemblies, remains in force across the New Delhi district.
According to the advisory, protest marches, processions and gatherings of five or more people are prohibited, except at the designated protest site at Jantar Mantar with prior permission.
Police warned that violations could invite action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and other applicable laws.
Heavy deployment across central Delhi
Delhi Police have deployed additional personnel, reinforced barricades and intensified vehicle checks at key entry points to the capital.
Several locations, including Parliament Street, Central Vista, Jantar Mantar, Connaught Place and Shankar Chowk, have been placed under heightened security with multi-layered barricading, CCTV surveillance, anti-sabotage checks and round-the-clock patrolling.
Police said preventive deployment will continue throughout the Parliament session. Rapid response teams and reserve forces have also been kept on standby to respond to any law-and-order situation.
Jantar Mantar under three-tier security
Security around Jantar Mantar has been significantly strengthened with a three-tier deployment comprising two layers of Delhi Police personnel and one layer of paramilitary forces.
Officials said police personnel are maintaining constant surveillance around the protest site and adequate arrangements have been made to prevent any untoward incident.
Protest continues despite Wangchuk’s hospitalisation
The heightened security comes amid continuing protests over the alleged NEET irregularities.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has continued his indefinite hunger strike after activist Sonam Wangchuk was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital on Saturday following a deterioration in his health.
From the hospital, Wangchuk urged supporters to participate in the proposed July 20 “Chalo Sansad” march.
