A woman journalist’s late-night drive from work turned into a terrifying ordeal in Delhi when two men on a scooter allegedly chased her for several kilometres, tried to block her car, and eventually smashed its rear windscreen with a stick.
Police said the incident occurred between October 30 and 31, and both accused were arrested within hours.
The 35-year-old journalist, a producer with a private TV channel, was driving home to Vasant Kunj from her Noida office around 12:45 am. As she crossed the Mahamaya flyover, two men on a two-wheeler began tailing her after she overtook them.
“They kept trying to block my car and gestured for me to stop. When traffic slowed, the pillion rider hit my windshield and tried to open the door. Then, near the DND flyway, he pulled out a stick and smashed my rear window,” the journalist said in an audio clip.
Fearing for her life, she phoned a colleague who advised her not to stop. She sped towards the Ashram flyover and called the Police Control Room (PCR) around 1:30 am.
A team from the Lajpat Nagar police station reached her location quickly and ensured her safety. The case was later transferred to Sun Light Colony police station, under whose jurisdiction the attack took place.
“CCTV footage from the route helped identify and track the culprits. Both were detained within hours,” said a senior police officer.
The accused were identified as Shubham and Deepak, both with prior involvement in an Arms Act case registered at Dabri police station earlier this year.
Police said they are investigating whether the men have been involved in similar incidents. Officials added that every distress call from women is now being treated as an immediate priority, with intensified patrolling on city expressways at night.
