A government doctor in North Kashmir’s Bandipora has been suspended for failing to attend her duty and the Independence Day celebrations.
According to an order issued by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Bandipora, Dr. Sabia Salam, a Medical Officer at District Hospital Bandipora, did not report for her scheduled duty on August 14, which the authorities said “adversely affected patient care.”
The order further stated that on August 15, despite clear written instructions, Dr. Salam did not attend the Independence Day celebrations and remained absent without any prior intimation or authorisation. The CMO noted that her absence amounted to “disrespect and disregard for a National Event” and showed “indiscipline unbecoming of a Government servant.”
Invoking Rule 31 of the Jammu & Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956, along with Article 128 of the J&K Civil Service Regulations, the order said that Dr. Salam was placed under suspension with immediate effect pending an inquiry.
During the suspension period, she has been attached to the Head of the Ophthalmology Department at the District Hospital Bandipora and will receive subsistence allowance as per rules.
