In Gaya, Bihar, Dr. Jitendra Yadav was brutally attacked after visiting the home of a rape survivor to treat her mother. A video shows the doctor tied to a tree, his shirt soaked in blood. According to the survivor’s family, five women and three men forcibly entered the house, dragged Dr. Yadav outside, tied him to a tree, and beat him with sticks and iron rods. A young girl, the survivor’s niece, ran to the road seeking help and alerted a patrolling police vehicle. By the time the police arrived, the attackers had already fled the scene.

The daughter, a survivor of a 2021 gang rape, had testified along with her family on May 30. The family filed a case with the Fatehpur Police Station naming all the accused. So far, one accused has been arrested, while the others remain absconding. The survivor’s mother alleges that the family of the arrested accused, angered by the arrest, attempted to harm her family. She also said that the gang attacked her elderly mother and her daughter during the incident.

Dr. Jitendra Yadav, severely injured in the attack, is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital. Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sunil Kumar Pandey told the media that three people have been arrested in connection with the attack. He stated that the attack stemmed from a ‘land dispute’ and was not related to the ‘rape survivor’.

The opposition slammed the Government after the video of the doctor severely injured and soaked in blood was shared on social media. Tejashwi Yadav, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader, wrote on X that the situation in Bihar is worse than Taliban.

“The situation in Bihar is worse than Taliban. In the Gaya district, the doctor who went to treat the mother of a rape victim was tied to a tree and beaten to a bloody pulp by the accused,” he said.

He also criticised the National Democratic Alliance party, stating that the Government has been incapable of serving justice, preventing crimes, catching criminals, and getting them punished; this is why the people have started taking law and order into their own hands. He added that the situation in Bihar is chaotic.

“The chief minister is unconscious, the government is drunk, Officers and ministers are busy looting the treasury, and the administration is in disarray,” he said.
