“Dragged by Hair, Left Bleeding”: Dalit Family Assaulted in UP’s Pratapgarh, Cops Book Victims Instead of Attackers

dalit UP beaten

A land dispute in Pratapgarh’s Antu police station area turned violent on Thursday evening when a Dalit woman and her three minor daughters were attacked in Gram Sabha Para Hamidpur.

According to locals, Manju Devi was cutting grass on the ridge of her field when Krishnakant Pandey, Ketan Pandey and a group of men confronted her, claiming the land belonged to them. They allegedly began beating her with sticks, leaving her with a serious head injury.

When her daughters, Muskaan (16), Mansi (14) and Reshma (15), tried to save her, the attackers allegedly dragged them by their hair and thrashed them. One of the girls suffered a severe chest injury.

Shockingly, witnesses say Dial 112 police were present at the spot but did not intervene. With the help of villagers, the injured were later taken to the district hospital in an ambulance. However, doctors reportedly refused to provide treatment without an NCR from the police.

The victim’s family has alleged that instead of registering their complaint, the police filed a case against them. They further accused Antu police station officials of colluding with the attackers, claiming that several false cases had been lodged against their family in the past.
