A Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) guest house manager has been detained in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district on suspicion of spying for Pakistan, police confirmed on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
The suspect, Mahendra Prasad, hails from Almora in Uttarakhand and was posted as the manager of the DRDO guest house in the Chandan area of Jaisalmer — a region close to the Pokhran firing range, where India conducts missile and weapon trials.
Jaisalmer Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shivhare said Prasad was detained on Monday and a joint interrogation with intelligence and military agencies is being carried out.
“He is suspected to have shared sensitive information related to strategic operations and activities in the region,” police said.
The guest house hosts senior DRDO scientists, military officers, and technical experts who participate in high-level defence trials. Authorities suspect that Prasad may have had access to their movements and conversations. Further investigation is ongoing.
