In Meerut’s Ganganagar, a family confronted the Muslim staff of a restaurant over being served non-vegetarian dishes, sparking a heated dispute. The incident, which occurred on Friday, gained attention after a video of the family arguing with the management went viral online.
The family said that they ordered a vegetarian dish named “Vilayati Veg” from the menu, but the waiter made a mistake and came up with roasted chicken. After they peacefully consumed the food and were asked to pay bills, they initiated an argument.
Keeping the Muslim waiter, Sultan, in the epicentre of the blame game, the matter took a communal turn, and the family started accusing staff of “deliberately causing tumult” and “hurting their religious sentiments”, and traditions.
“When we ordered a vegetarian dish, why did you serve a non-vegetarian meal to us?” a family member asked Sultan.
“It was for another table!” Sultan also accepted his mistake in reply.
Later the members inquired about the names of several employees, and accused them of “corrupting their faith”. They deciphered the mishap as a “blunder” and threatened that if they did it with 10 or more people, it would end their business. They also questioned the religious identity of Chef Jaideep, master chef Zaidi, and owner Sani Agrawal to verify and reinforce the accusations.
However, employees remained humble and kept replicating that the order was made by mistake.
On the other hand, netizens criticized the family for not being able to differentiate between a vegetarian dish and chicken and marked out their cunning tendencies.
“Whether by mistake or intentionally, I just don’t understand how these people realized only after eating when they had to check the bill. You guys are so amazing!.” a user mocked their behaviour on “X”.
“Playing over smart. They knew while eating but still ate it. It’s impossible not to recognize food” another person commented.
Some social media users said that it’s not possible to not be able to recognize roasted chicken, while some said that such errors are very common in a mixed kitchen and nobody should be held accountable with an anti-Muslim narrative.
