Former IAS Niyaz Khan Says Muslims Should Change Traditional Attire to Avoid Mob Lynching

Former Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer and author Niyaz Khan has sparked controversy after suggesting that Muslims in India should change their traditional attire to avoid being identified during incidents of mob lynching.

In a post on X, Khan claimed that many Muslim victims of mob lynching were easily identified because they wore traditional clothing such as kurta-pajama, a beard and a skull cap. He suggested that Muslims adopt clothing similar to that worn by Turkish Muslims so that their religious identity is not immediately recognizable.

“Most of the mob lynchings of Muslims in India have occurred when they were wearing kurtas, pajamas, beards, and caps. Their identity is easily recognizable from this attire. To avoid mob lynchings, Muslims should change their dress and appearance. They should wear clothes like Turkish Muslims so that their identity remains hidden,” Khan wrote.

Comments on Democracy and Governance

In another post, Khan questioned how democracy functions in several countries. He said many independent nations had adopted democracy but failed to uphold its basic principles.

“Many independent countries adopted democracy, but did not adopt its basic principles. In the name of democracy, leaders and officers loot huge amounts of money, while the public remains busy with free facilities,” he wrote.

Calls for Honest People to Join Politics

Khan also shared his views on environmental protection and politics in another post on July 9.

He said materialism has caused serious damage to the environment and urged people to think about its consequences.

The former IAS officer further said that financially secure and honest individuals should enter politics, arguing that electing people with criminal backgrounds weakens democracy.
