Union Textiles Minister and Begusarai MP Giriraj Singh inaugurated a KFC outlet at Har Har Mahadev Chowk in Begusarai on September 17, according to local reports and a video of the event circulating online.
Singh attended the opening as the chief guest and participated in the inauguration ceremony at the new outlet.
The event has drawn attention on social media because of Singh’s earlier remarks opposing halal meat.
Singh Had Urged Hindus to Eat Jhatka Meat
In December 2023, Singh had urged Hindus to stop eating halal meat and consume only jhatka meat, which comes from animals slaughtered with a single blow.
Speaking in Begusarai, Singh said he admired Muslims for following halal dietary practices and called on Hindus to similarly follow what he described as their own religious traditions.
“The Hindu way of slaughter is jhatka. Whenever Hindus perform ‘bali’ (animal sacrifice), they do so in a single stroke. As such, they must not corrupt themselves by eating halal meat. They must always stick to jhatka,” Singh had said.
He had also called for a business model involving shops and abattoirs that sold only jhatka meat.
Social Media Users React to KFC Appearance
Singh’s appearance at the KFC inauguration has since prompted social media users to revisit his earlier comments about halal meat.
Journalist Ajit Anjum commented on the event, saying, “Look, Sanatanis, your Giriraj Singh is inaugurating a chicken shop.”

The Begusarai event was otherwise presented locally as the opening of a new outlet of the international fast food chain in the city.
Singh Also Backed Action Against Open Meat Sales
Singh has continued to comment on meat-related regulations in Bihar.
In February 2026, while speaking to journalists in Begusarai, he welcomed the Bihar government’s decision to take action against the sale of meat in the open. He praised Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha for the move and urged district magistrates to enforce it strictly.
Singh said open sale of meat should be banned, describing it as a concern related to cleanliness and the environment.
