In a ceremony held at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre, Malaysia’s highest honor for Influential Muslim Scholars worldwide, the International Tokoh Ma’al Hijrah Award 2023, was presented to Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad, the Grand Mufti of India.
The event, graced by the presence of dignitaries, including the Malaysian King Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and Minister of Religious Affairs Dr. Muhammad Nahim bin Mukhtar, celebrated the Grand Mufti’s remarkable efforts in promoting peace, love, and harmony within the Islamic community and beyond.
The International Tokoh Ma’al Hijrah Award, initiated by the Malaysian government in 2008, recognizes individuals of global renown who have significantly contributed to world peace and harmony at the beginning of every Hijra year.
Throughout the years, this esteemed award has been conferred upon distinguished figures such as Syrian scholar Dr. Wahhaba Mustafa Al Suhaili, Al Azhar Grand Imam Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Al Tayyib, and Secretary General of the Muslim World League, Dr. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Al Issa.
The decision to present the award to Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad was made in acknowledgment of his invaluable contributions to promoting the message of love within Islam, not only in India but also on an international level.
His dedication to fostering harmony among diverse communities and his profound knowledge of Islamic teachings were applauded by the award committee. Additionally, the committee recognized his outstanding leadership in the fields of education, social development, and research.

The Grand Mufti’s visit to Malaysia includes participation in the Sahihul Bukhari Scholars Conference scheduled to take place on the 22nd. This conference provides a platform for scholars to engage in meaningful discussions and exchange ideas on various aspects of Islamic teachings and scholarship.
Sheikh Abubakr’s presence at the ceremony was met with enthusiasm from the audience, which comprised prominent scholars, students from various universities, and representatives from civic organizations.
