A small town in Gujarat is reeling in disbelief after a desperate father struck an unthinkable bargain with his landlord, allowing the repeated sexual assault of his own wife and minor daughter to clear mounting rent dues. The nightmare unraveled when the maternal grandmother of the teenage survivor filed a formal complaint with the Morbi police on May 1, triggering immediate legal action.
How Financial Ruin Led to an Unthinkable Agreement
The family had migrated to Morbi around six months ago in search of better livelihood opportunities. They rented a modest house for Rs 2,000 per month. Life took a cruel turn when the husband’s small business collapsed completely. With no steady income, the unpaid rent accumulated into a crushing burden.
Police said the 55-year-old landlord spotted their vulnerability and made a predatory proposition. He demanded sexual favours from the tenant’s wife in exchange for waiving the pending dues. Shocking investigators, the husband allegedly gave his explicit consent to this arrangement. What followed was a cycle of repeated rape of the woman by the landlord.
The Abuse Spreads to a 13-Year-Old Child
The nightmare did not stop with the mother. Emboldened by the silence, the landlord extended his vile demands to the couple’s minor daughter, who was just 13 years and seven months old at the time. Once again, the father reportedly consented. The child was taken to various locations, including a property in nearby Tankara, where she was subjected to heinous acts by the landlord. A close relative of the landlord also allegedly joined in and assaulted the mother multiple times at the rented house and other locations.
Grandmother’s Courage Brings the Truth to Light
The conspiracy of silence shattered when the woman’s maternal grandfather learned about the unspeakable exploitation happening to his daughter and granddaughter. Disturbed beyond words by the betrayal of trust and the sheer brutality inflicted upon his family, he encouraged an immediate formal complaint. The wife’s mother, who is also the grandmother of the survivor, approached the Morbi City A Division police and narrated the full horror.
Swift Police Action and Arrests
Morbi City A Division Police Inspector Y B Jadeja confirmed the developments to reporters. “We have completed the panchnama at the crime scene, conducted medical examinations of both victims and the accused, and gathered crucial scientific evidence,” Jadeja stated. The tenant-husband was arrested earlier and is currently lodged in jail. The 55-year-old landlord was produced before a local court on Thursday. After a day of custodial interrogation, he was remanded to judicial custody and is now behind bars.
A case has been registered under stringent provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Police said family members of the landlord and the absconding co-accused have also gone underground, complicating the investigation. Dedicated teams have been formed to track down the third suspect who remains on the run.
