In Gurugram, police arrested a woman identified as Jyotsna Bibi after she allegedly uploaded a video referencing beef and West Bengal’s chief minister Suvendu Adhikari, according to police officials.
Police said Jyotsna Bibi, a resident of South Dinajpur district in West Bengal who worked as a domestic helper in Gurugram’s Chakkarpur area, was arrested on charges of allegedly hurting religious sentiments. An FIR was registered at Sector 29 police station following a complaint by a local resident, Dinesh Yadav, over the video that had sparked controversy.
According to police, the woman was arrested on May 30 and later sent to judicial custody after being produced before a court. Her mobile phone was also seized for forensic examination. A bail plea filed on June 2 was reportedly rejected, with the next hearing scheduled for June 8.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing. The case comes amid wider discussions around animal slaughter regulations after the West Bengal government recently issued guidelines requiring a “fit certificate” for animal slaughter and warning of penal action for violations.
