Ahead of the Hanuman Jayanti procession scheduled on April 2, the Hyderabad police have stepped up security measures across the city. Mosques along the procession routes, including those at Afzal Gunj and Charminar, have been draped with large cloths as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incidents, authorities said.
Hyderabad City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar chaired a coordination meeting on March 31 with officials and organisers to finalise security and logistical arrangements for the yatra. Around 168 processions are expected to converge into the main event, and nearly 3,000 police personnel, along with additional armed forces, will be deployed at key locations to ensure a peaceful conduct.
The police have emphasised special precautions regarding the height of idols along the route in view of flyovers and railway bridges. Organisers have been instructed to train volunteers, manage crowds effectively, and strictly follow designated routes.
Commissioner Sajjanar also conducted a field inspection of the 12-kilometre procession route from Gowliguda Ram Mandir to Tadbund Hanuman Temple. He assured citizens that, following the peaceful celebrations of Ram Navami two days ago, the Hanuman Jayanti yatra would also proceed smoothly with the cooperation of organisers and the public.
Traffic management and public vigilance
To minimise disruption, traffic diversions will be implemented along the route. Citizens have been requested to follow police instructions and avoid spreading rumours on social media, with authorities warning of strict action against misleading or provocative posts.
Police have urged organisers and participants to remain alert and report any suspicious activity immediately. Security will also be reinforced at religious sites across the city to maintain peace.
Cyber Crime Unit crackdown
In a related update, Hyderabad City Police’s Cyber Crime Unit reported significant progress in curbing illegal online betting, gaming promotions, and fake investment schemes. During March, the unit identified 129 social media profiles on Facebook and Instagram running 494 paid advertisements promoting gambling and fraudulent investment platforms.
“These campaigns targeted vulnerable users with promises of easy money, bonuses, and referral commissions,” the police said. Some advertisements even used deepfake videos of well-known personalities to lure the public. Authorities confirmed that the profiles have been systematically monitored and action is being taken against them.
With coordinated policing, cyber monitoring, and preventive measures at religious sites, Hyderabad authorities are aiming to ensure a safe and peaceful Hanuman Jayanti celebration in the city.
