A Rapido bike taxi rider in Bengaluru has been booked after allegedly trying to touch a woman passenger’s legs during a ride in the city on Thursday afternoon. The woman, who managed to record a short video of the incident, later filed a police complaint.
According to the Wilson Garden Police, the incident took place around 4 p.m., after which an FIR was registered and an investigation has begun. A response from Rapido regarding the complaint is still awaited.
In an Instagram post, the woman described her experience, writing, “While returning to my PG from Church Street on a Rapido ride, the captain (rider) tried to grab my legs while riding.” She said the act happened so suddenly that she could not react immediately. “When he did it again, I said, ‘Bhaiya, kya kar rahe ho, mat karo,’ but he didn’t stop,” she wrote.
The woman said she was new to Bengaluru and did not know the area, so she was afraid to ask the rider to stop in the middle of the road. When she reached her destination, a passerby noticed her distress and asked what had happened.
“I told him, and he confronted the rider. The captain apologised and said he wouldn’t do it again but as he left, he pointed his finger at me in a way that made me feel even more unsafe,” she said.
Expressing her fear and anger, the woman added, “I’m sharing this because no woman should have to go through something like this… not in a cab, not on a bike, not anywhere. This is not the first time something similar has happened to me, but today I just couldn’t stay silent because of how unsafe I felt.”
The police said they are examining the video and other evidence to identify the accused and take appropriate legal action.
