Kaif Khan was just 19. A Class 10 student, with his life ahead of him. But on the evening of May 6, his dreams were cut short in an attack that his family says was not just horrifying, but planned.
A few months ago, Kaif had been beaten by a group of men. He recovered from those injuries, and his family hoped that it was sorted. But on that May evening, it became clear that it wasn’t over.
Around 7:30 PM, a group of 6 men, Bablu Yadav, Ashish Yadav, Anil Madeshiya, and HareRam Yadav, reportedly held a meeting at a local hotel run by Anil in Sisai Bazar, Gopalganj, Bihar. Kaif’s brother believes it was a conspiracy. “My brother had just gone to the market that evening,” he recalled. “That’s when they attacked him. Sonu and Mithlesh held him down, and the others stabbed him. Eight times. No one helped.”
Kaif died on the spot. The attack was so vicious that it punctured his lungs and heart. His brother rushed him to the hospital, but it was too late. Doctors could only confirm his death.
Three of the accused have since been arrested. Three others are still absconding. The family says their only demand is justice. “We want all of them to be punished for what they did to him,” his brother said.
But as if losing Kaif wasn’t enough, the family is now dealing with fresh trauma. “My brother came from Pune when he heard about what happened,” Kaif’s brother shared. “And now, there’s an FIR against him, me and two others. We are being dragged into this when we’re the ones who lost everything.”
As police continue their investigation, the family clings to one hope: that Kaif’s killers will be brought to justice and that the burden unfairly placed on his grieving family will be lifted.
“A dispute had occurred between Kaif and Bablu Yadav and Ashish Yadav over some issue at an orchestra. When they found Kaif alone, tensions escalated — he was attacked with a knife. Though he was taken to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries either on the way or during treatment. Following the incident, a group gathered and attempted to attack the Yadavs. A motorcycle used by them was set on fire. The police intervened in time, rescued them, and took them into custody,” said a police officer.
