Two associates of the accused were found attacking a Muslim Cop, Shahzad Ali, in Jaipur’s Vidhyanagar. The police had arrested Gaurav Rai, from Vidhya Nagar bus stand, in a case of cheating. While the police team was on its way back, their car was stopped by Gaurav Rai’s associates, Vijay Kumar Rai and Rahul Rai, in an attempt to free Gaurav Rai. Intervening in the attempt, Shahzad Ali stepped out of the car to confront the assailants, while two other officers were still inside the car.
Ali was attacked, beaten, and his shirt was torn in the scuffle. The assailants also vandalised the vehicle, smashing the bonnet and the front glass with a helmet. They tried to block the police vehicle from steering away, while one of the attackers tried to open the front door. The police officer nearly escaped serious injuries from the scuffle, as his shirt was torn and he was violently confronted, physically assaulted.
The incident happened near the Minar masjid, on their way from Vidhyanagar. SHO Rakesh Khaliya of Vidhyanagar told the media that Head Constable Shahzad Ali of Shyam Nagar had gone to arrest Gaurav Rai. The attack continued for nearly twenty minutes, after Shahzad Ali single-handedly managed to resist the assault. The two are arrested and have been booked for attacking a police officer and obstructing official duty. The situation was brought under control after a team of Police from Vidhyanagar arrived at the spot and detained both of them.
