A veiled Muslim woman was asked to shout “Jai Shree Ram” during a food distribution program organized by an NGO near Tata Hospital in Mumbai. The person appointed to hand out food first ordered the woman to get out of the queue targeting her visible Muslim identity and then asked her to chant Jai Shri Ram.

“Jise Ram nahin bolna, vo bhag jaye yahan se!” (One who is not ready to shout ‘Jai Shree Ram’, get out from here!), the NGO worker yelled in aggression.

In between the chaos, some other people intervened. The Muslim woman argued, complained and revolted but the crowd also asked her to follow the abhorrent instructions.

In the viral video on the social portal X, the mob can be heard pressurizing her to shout the slogan of hateful Hindu-Rashtra goons.

“If shouting ‘Jai Shree Ram’ is mandatory here, you don’t take the food!” someone said from behind.

“Speak up! Speak up!” the crowd chanted.

The video was recorded by a local reporter and now it’s receiving criticism across online platforms.

Later, some people said that many others have been asked to chant the slogan, which is discriminatory. The main distributor also accused them (Muslims) of being scoundrels, showing religious hatred and Islamophobia.

Netizens brutally condemned such an eerie “intention” in the name of “social work” and criticized the imposed inhumane terms. Many people remarked that such an illicit attitude during a welfare drive does not depict goodness but rather demonstrates criminal tendencies.

The hate upsurge against Muslims has brutally polluted the atmosphere and such incidents need to be addressed as an attack on democracy and peace.
