“Hindu Unity Sends a Message to the Nation”: Giriraj Singh on Shimla Mosque Controversy

Union Minister Giriraj Singh made controversial remarks on Friday, praising Hindu unity for pressuring a Muslim welfare committee to comply with a court order related to the Sanjauli mosque issue in Himachal Pradesh. Speaking at the inauguration of a ‘shilpgraam’ in Naini, Singh said that unity among Hindus had made it impossible for any external power to challenge their stance.

“Himachal Pradesh sends a message to the entire country that when Hindus remain united, no power in the world—whether it be any foreign entity or historical rulers like the Mughals—can prevail,” Singh said.

The controversy centers around the “unauthorized construction” of a portion of the mosque in Sanjauli. The Muslim welfare committee recently requested the Shimla municipal commissioner to seal the unauthorized part of the mosque and offered to demolish it per a court order. This move follows protests from Hindu organizations in Shimla over the mosque’s construction.

Singh took the opportunity to attack opposition leaders, contrasting their approaches with that of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. “Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, members of the ‘tukde-tukde’ gang, see caste even in criminals. Yogi Adityanath, however, sees criminals as criminals. This is the difference between Yogi ji and Akhilesh Yadav, who during his tenure encouraged hooliganism,” Singh stated.

Singh also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attendance at Ganesh puja at the residence of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud.

“If the people of the tukde-tukde gang go to Hamid Ansari’s (former vice president) house wearing caps and are present on Bakrid, it is very good. If someone opens the doors for terrorists at night, Arvind Kejriwal, Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh will like it. But, if someone goes to a judge’s house for Ganesh puja, they feel bad. That is why Akhilesh Yadav is abusing the mahants today. He has abused Gorakshpeeth,” he said.

Regarding Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Singh condemned his government’s corruption and criticized Kejriwal’s response to a recent Supreme Court bail decision. “Kejriwal had sworn to fight against corruption, but today his entire government is mired in it,” Singh claimed.

Singh mocked RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, accusing him of being part of the ‘tukde-tukde’ gang and of lying both abroad and in Bihar.

“Tejashwi Yadav is also a member of the tukde-tukde gang. Rahul Gandhi goes abroad and hurls abuses by telling lies, while Tejashwi hurls abuses by telling lies in Bihar.”
