Jamaat-e-Islami Hind on Tuesday expressed sorrow over the deadly blast near Delhi’s Red Fort that killed at least 13 people and injured 20 others on Monday evening. Calling the incident “horrific and tragic,” Jamaat President Syed Sadatullah Hussaini offered condolences to the bereaved families and called for a fair and transparent investigation.
“We are deeply saddened by the deadly blast near Red Fort in Delhi. We express deep sorrow over the tragedy and extend heartfelt sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives in this horrific incident. We also express solidarity with the injured and pray for their speedy recovery,” Hussaini said.
He urged authorities to “conduct a thorough and transparent investigation” to uncover the truth and ensure such incidents do not recur. “We stand with the people of Delhi in this hour of grief,” he added.
According to officials, the powerful explosion occurred around 7 p.m. near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station and is believed to have originated from a Hyundai i20 car that had stopped at a traffic signal. The blast ripped through nearby vehicles, leaving behind mangled bodies and shattered glass as panic spread through the busy Chandni Chowk area.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Bhutan, condemned the attack and vowed strict action against those responsible. “The conspirators behind it will not be spared. All those responsible will be brought to justice,” he said in his first remarks following the explosion. “Our agencies will get to the bottom of this conspiracy.”
Police have invoked anti-terror laws and cordoned off the area for investigation. However, officials have yet to release an official statement on what caused the blast.
