Hyderabad police on Friday arrested seven people, including Telangana Congress leader Mujahid Alam Khan and his father Mahboob Alam Khan, in connection with the murder of senior advocate Khaja Moizuddin. Soon after the arrest, the Congress party expelled Mujahid Alam Khan from the party.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Disciplinary Committee chairman Mallu Ravi said the party took the matter seriously after police linked Khan and his father to the murder case.
Senior advocate Khaja Moizuddin was initially believed to have died in a hit-and-run incident, but police later said the case was a “well-planned criminal conspiracy” linked to long-standing disputes over Waqf properties in Hyderabad.
Advocate Run Over While Leaving for Morning Swim
According to Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, the incident took place around 5:45 am on May 23 when Moizuddin was leaving his Nampally residence for his regular morning swim.
“As he was getting into his car, a Scorpio vehicle rammed into him, throwing him nearly 10 metres away,” Sajjanar said. The lawyer later died while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Police said CCTV footage showed a Scorpio SUV without a number plate being used in the attack. Investigators found that two suspects were inside the vehicle while two others kept watch nearby.
Waqf Property Dispute Behind Murder, Say Police
Police claimed the murder was linked to a long-running dispute involving Waqf properties in areas such as Malakpet and Lakdikapul.
“There was a decade-long battle between Khaja Moizuddin, Mahboob Alam Khan and Mujahid Alam Khan over the administration, control and financial management of Waqf properties,” Commissioner Sajjanar told reporters.
According to investigators, several civil, criminal and Waqf Tribunal cases had been ongoing between the two sides for years. Police alleged that the accused believed they were facing legal setbacks and humiliation because of Moizuddin.
“The accused conspired to eliminate him,” Sajjanar said.

Police Allege ₹15 Lakh Contract Killing Plot
Police alleged that Mujahid Alam Khan and his father, along with associates Hassan Ali and Muneer, hired contract killers for ₹15 lakh to murder the advocate.
Investigators said Kishan alias Pappu was hired for the operation and later brought in other accused, including Vinay, Abhijeeth, Vikram and Deen Dayal.
According to police, Mujahid allegedly arranged an advance payment of ₹2 lakh through an associate to purchase the Scorpio vehicle used in the murder.
The accused reportedly conducted surveillance on the lawyer from January 2026, tracking his movements around his residence and other places he frequently visited.
“Investigation clearly established that the offence was committed in furtherance of a well-planned criminal conspiracy executed in a systematic manner,” Sajjanar said.

Arrests Made After CCTV, Technical Evidence
Police said the breakthrough came after tracking Kishan alias Pappu to Panipat in Haryana. He was arrested on May 27 and allegedly revealed details of the conspiracy during questioning.
Based on his statement and technical evidence, police arrested Mujahid Alam Khan from his Jubilee Hills residence, Mahboob Alam Khan from his home, and four other accused near MGBS in Gowliguda on May 29.
Investigators said they recovered the Scorpio SUV used in the incident, ₹10.1 lakh in cash allegedly linked to the murder plan, and several mobile phones suspected to have been used for coordination.
The accused have been booked under provisions related to murder and criminal conspiracy under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police said further investigation is ongoing and more arrests may follow.
