Hyderabad police have registered an FIR against a man identified as E.N. Ravi Kumar alias Rafi for cheating and intimidating his third wife after hiding his previous marriages.
According to police, Ravi, who is from Attapur, has a pattern of targeting young college-going Muslim girls, usually 14–18 years younger than him. He allegedly lured them into relationships, recorded private videos and audio conversations, and then used them to blackmail the women into marriage.
Ravi had changed his name from Ravi Kumar to Rafi while approaching the victims. He allegedly trapped and married three women using this method.
His third wife, unable to bear the harassment, approached the police and lodged a complaint. Based on her statement, police registered a case of criminal intimidation and cheating against him.
The victims, all young Muslim women, were afraid to reveal the abuse to their families because of social pressure and stigma.
Police are now investigating whether more women may have been trapped by Ravi using the same method.
