Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday said the BJP-led NDA government in Bihar is “on its way out” and promised that a new INDIA bloc government will scrap the controversial Waqf Act brought in by the Centre.

Addressing a large crowd at the ‘Save Waqf, Save Constitution’ rally at Patna’s historic Gandhi Maidan, Yadav said, “In November, a pro-poor government will be formed in Bihar and the Waqf Act will be thrown into the dustbin.”

Wearing black bands as a symbol of protest, leaders from several parties, including the Congress and AIMIM, joined the rally. Yadav, now the Leader of Opposition in Bihar, added, “Our MPs opposed this law in Parliament, and we’ve also moved the court against it.”

He accused the BJP of behaving as if India was “kisi ke baap ka desh (someone’s personal property),” and reminded the crowd that the freedom struggle was fought by people of all religions.

Warning about alleged manipulation of the voters’ list, Yadav urged vigilance: “The Election Commission is trying to help the BJP through special voter list revisions. We must fight this conspiracy.”

Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid, who also attended, said the rally was meant to defend “Waqf, democracy and the country’s pluralistic character.” Congress MPs Imran Pratapgarhi and Syed Nasir Hussain, along with AIMIM state chief Akhtarul Iman and independent MP Pappu Yadav, were among those present.

Pratapgarhi, known for his poetry, was welcomed with cheers from the youth as he arrived in an open vehicle.
