India stormed into the Women’s World Cup final after defeating Australia by 35 runs in the second semifinal on Wednesday. Jemimah Rodrigues was the star of the match, smashing a brilliant century that guided India to victory and kept their dream of lifting the trophy alive.
India batted first and put up a strong total, thanks to Jemimah’s superb form. She played with patience and confidence, anchoring the innings and punishing the loose deliveries. “It was all about staying calm and trusting my game,” Jemimah said after the match.
“Australia is always a tough opponent, but we believed in our plan and stuck to it.”
India’s bowlers then put up an impressive show, defending the total with determination. Pooja Vastrakar and Renuka Singh picked up crucial wickets at key moments, breaking Australia’s partnerships and tightening the pressure.
“The plan was to bowl in the right areas and not give them easy runs,” said Renuka.
Australia, despite a fighting half-century from their captain Alyssa Healy, fell short of the target as India’s fielders backed up their bowlers with sharp work on the ground.
“We tried to keep the momentum but lost wickets at the wrong time,” Healy admitted.
“India played better cricket today and deserved the win.”With this victory, India secured their place in the World Cup final, where they will face either England or South Africa.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur praised her team’s all-round performance, saying, “This win means a lot to us. Everyone contributed — from batting to fielding — and we’re proud to reach the final.”
The final will be played on Sunday, and India will look to clinch their first Women’s World Cup title.
