A case has been registered against the manager, principal and a teacher of Radiance Inter College in Tambaur, Sitapur, over allegations of religious discrimination against non-Muslim students and an alleged attempt to convert them to Islam.
The case was registered following a complaint by Vishwa Hindu Parishad department minister Uttam Singh under the provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act.
Students Allegedly Given Islamic Literature
According to the complaint, non-Muslim students at the college were allegedly given books related to Islam and questioned about their contents.
The complaint alleges that students were mistreated when they failed to give the expected answers. It further claims that Islamic literature was later provided to the students’ parents as well.
The complaint alleges that the activities amounted to an organised attempt to influence students towards Islam.
Quran and Other Books Allegedly Distributed
A programme was reportedly organised at the college on Hindi Diwas, during which the management allegedly distributed copies of the Quran, books about Prophet Muhammad and other Islamic literature to the chief guest and parents.
The allegations have been made by the complainant, and the claims have not been independently established.
College manager Aziz Gauri, principal Ejaz Ahmed and another teacher have been named as accused in the case.
Police Begin Investigation
Police have started collecting evidence in the case and are expected to record statements from students and their parents. Investigators will also examine the books and other material that were allegedly distributed at the college.
A departmental inquiry has also been sought from the District Inspector of Schools and the Basic Education Officer.
