Dr. Khalid Raza, an associate professor at Jamia Millia Islamia, has been awarded a research grant of approximately Rs 94 lakh by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to advance his work in leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the treatment of breast cancer.
The grant will fund research focused on AI-guided drug design, with the aim of optimizing drug compounds, identifying therapeutic targets, and developing novel treatment strategies for breast cancer. A key component of the research will involve further exploration of a promising drug compound, ‘DdpMPyPEPhU,’ which has already been patented by Dr. Raza.
This research is expected to address critical challenges in breast cancer treatment and could lead to transformative outcomes that could impact global healthcare practices. The funding, provided over a period of three years, will support advanced experimentation, foster collaborations with leading experts, and accelerate the development of innovative solutions for breast cancer treatment.
Jamia Millia Islamia’s Vice-Chancellor, Mazhar Asif, and Registrar, Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, congratulated Dr. Raza on this achievement. Asif said “Raza’s recognition by ICMR underscores JMI’s vital contributions to integrating AI in healthcare research.”
Dr. Raza expressed his gratitude for the recognition, saying, “I am deeply honoured to receive this grant from ICMR. It represents a tremendous opportunity to advance our research on AI-driven drug design and contribute to better health outcomes for millions. I am thankful to my research team, collaborators, and ICMR for their unwavering support.”
Dr. Raza is renowned for his pioneering research in the application of AI in healthcare, focusing on designing and optimizing drug compounds using AI-based multitarget docking, molecular simulations, and genomics-driven personalized medicine.
