Jammu Cop Arrested for Selling Heroin at Hospital, Linked to Drug Syndicate

A police constable was arrested in Jammu for allegedly selling heroin on the premises of the Government Medical College and Hospital, officials said on Wednesday. Mohammad Mukhtiyar, a member of the Armed Police 12th Battalion in Srinagar’s Zewan, was caught with a heroin-like substance and ₹9,000 in cash.

Acting on information about a policeman involved in drug peddling, authorities launched a search operation on Tuesday near the hospital mortuary. Mukhtiyar was intercepted while riding his motorcycle, and police recovered the illicit substance and cash from him. He has been suspended from duty, and a case has been registered at Bakshi Nagar Police Station.

Officials suspect Mukhtiyar to be part of a drug syndicate operating in Jammu, targeting young people for illicit profit. The syndicate is believed to have ties to drug overdose deaths in the area.

“SP City North, Brijesh Sharma, is supervising the investigation to trace the syndicate’s network and dismantle its operations,” an official told local media.

Authorities are also conducting a financial investigation to identify assets acquired through the narcotics trade, with plans to seize such properties.

In another case on November 7, constable Parwaiz Khan was arrested along with his two wives during a raid on their home. Police seized heroin and over ₹2.5 lakh in cash. This arrest and Mukhtiyar’s case highlight a concerning trend of law enforcement personnel being linked to drug trafficking in the region.
