Jammu Railway Station was placed on high alert after forces caught a pigeon carrying a threatening note near the India-Pakistan international border, officials said on Thursday.
The Border Security Force (BSF) said they found the pigeon in the Khatmarian area of RS Pura with a piece of paper tied to its leg. The note reportedly carried a message that read, “Jammu Station IED Blast.”
Soon after, the BSF informed the Jammu and Kashmir Police, who immediately issued an alert at the railway station. Officials said the matter is being taken seriously and security checks at sensitive locations have been stepped up.
This comes just days after another pigeon was caught in the border area on August 18. That bird was spotted by a BSF patrol near Forward Defense Post-69, close to Kathmaria BOP, under the 07 Battalion.
According to reports, the slip recovered from that pigeon contained messages written in both Urdu and English. It read: “Kashmir Hamara Hai” (Kashmir is ours), “Waqt Aa Gaya Hai, Aa Jayega” (The time has come, it will come), along with “Jammu Station IED Blast.”
Security agencies are now investigating whether the pigeons may have flown into Indian territory from across the border. An official said, “We are probing all possibilities to ensure there is no threat. Extra vigilance has been deployed at the railway station and surrounding areas.”
