Jharkhand: 14-Year-Old Muslim Girl Abducted in Latehar, Incident on October 7 Raises Concerns

A 14-year-old Muslim girl, Saniya Shahnavaz, was reportedly abducted by three Hindu boys near her residence in the Balumath police station area of Jharkhand’s Latehar district. The incident occurred on October 7, 2023.

According to sources, the young girl was on her way to tuition classes when she was allegedly harassed by the Hindu boys. She confided in her family about the incident. Saniya’s brothers confronted the boys, leading to a heated argument and physical altercation.

The matter was reported to the local police station by the victim’s family. However, their ordeal continued as the police’s response left much to be desired. Family members claim that the authorities failed to provide adequate assistance and exhibited apathy towards their pleas for help.

The situation turned for the worse the following day when Saniya, who had left her house, was heard crying for help. Her anguished cry, “Amma, save me,” was the last the family heard of her before she vanished without a trace.

Family members rushed to the scene, but Saniya was nowhere to be found. Fearing for her safety, the family lodged a complaint with the police, urging them to take the matter seriously. The family alleges that the police have not conducted a thorough investigation and have been unresponsive to their requests for information.
