The Gujarat ATS on Wednesday arrested a 33-year-old woman from Jharkhand, living in Bengaluru, for her alleged involvement in supporting Al Qaeda’s activities in India. The woman, Shama Parveen, played a key role in spreading Al Qaeda’s messages through social media, the ATS said.

The ATS said it worked with Bengaluru police to find Parveen and carried out a raid at her home in the Manorayanapalya area, where she was taken into custody. Parveen, a graduate, had been living in Bengaluru for three years with her brother, who works as a software engineer.

During the questioning of four other people arrested in connection with Al Qaeda, the ATS learned about Parveen’s links to the group. It is alleged that she shared extremist videos related to Al Qaeda on social media platforms, especially Instagram.

The police said they seized several digital devices from her home, which are now being examined for evidence. After her arrest, Parveen was brought before a magistrate and given a transit warrant for her transfer to Gujarat, where she will face further questioning and legal proceedings under anti-terror laws.
