A Kashmiri doctor working at a private hospital in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested for allegedly putting up posters in support of the banned militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Srinagar.
The doctor, identified as Adil Ahmed from Anantnag district, was tracked down after Srinagar Police launched an investigation into the appearance of several pro-JeM posters across the city.
According to officials, CCTV footage showed Ahmed pasting the posters in different parts of Srinagar. Following this, a team from Srinagar Police, with help from the Special Operations Group and local Saharanpur authorities, raided a private hospital on Ambala Road on Thursday and detained him.
Confirming the arrest, Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Vyom Bindal said Ahmed was presented before a local court, which granted transit remand to Jammu and Kashmir Police for his transfer to Srinagar for further questioning.
Officials in Saharanpur said background checks have been stepped up as several people from Jammu and Kashmir work in the city’s healthcare sector.
Police sources said the case was filed after multiple Jaish-e-Mohammed posters appeared in Srinagar, prompting authorities to review surveillance footage and take swift action.
Ahmed has now been taken to Srinagar for interrogation, and the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
