A bus travelling from Delhi to Srinagar was allegedly attacked with stones and bricks near Kurukshetra in Haryana late Saturday night, leaving an elderly Kashmiri passenger reportedly injured and damaging the vehicle.
The incident reportedly took place around 10:45 pm on October 17, near Divine Star Dhaba, where the bus operated by Kashmir-based Star World Ventures had stopped.
According to news agency GNS, some unidentified persons allegedly abused the driver before pelting stones at the bus, damaging its windowpanes. The vehicle also reportedly sustained damage to its tail lights.
Star World Ventures confirmed the incident to GNS, saying the bus was travelling from Delhi to Srinagar when the attack occurred. Around 40 passengers were reportedly on board.
Videos circulating on social media purportedly show shattered windows, debris inside the bus and an elderly man with blood on his face. However, the reported injury and the alleged motive behind the attack could not be independently verified.
Omar Abdullah Condemns Attack
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday condemned the incident and urged the Haryana government and police to identify those responsible and take action against them.
“This unfortunate incident should never have taken place. I hope the Haryana government led by @NayabSainiBJP ji and @police_haryana catch the culprits and take action to ensure these things don’t happen again,” Abdullah wrote in a post on X.
Kashmiri Leaders Seek Accountability
Peoples Democratic Party MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra also condemned the alleged attack, raising concerns about the safety of Kashmiris travelling outside Jammu and Kashmir.
“A Delhi–Srinagar sleeper bus was attacked with bricks in Kurukshetra while passengers slept. An elderly Kashmiri was left bleeding,” Parra wrote on X.
He further alleged that reports suggested police had targeted passengers instead of the attackers. “Hate is making ordinary Kashmiris unsafe,” he said, calling for arrests and accountability.
National Conference leader Imran Nabi Dar also condemned the incident, describing it as an alleged hate crime. He claimed that an elderly Kashmiri passenger had been injured and demanded action against those responsible.
