K’taka: Miscreants Who Assailed Visually Impaired Muslim Man, Arrested In Gangavathi

The police have arrested the two miscreants who assaulted and set fire to the beard of Hussain Saab, a visually impaired elderly Muslim man from Gangavathi of Koppal District.

Superintendent of Police Yashodha Vantigodi, in a Press conference, said that the arrested are Sagar Chintu (24), and Narsappa Nayak (25) from Gangavathi.

Following a complaint registered in Gangavathi Nagar Police Station on the 30th of November, the Police investigated and arrested the two on Wednesday, December 6th.

In detailing the incident, the SP said that Chintu, a software engineer, and Nayak assaulted Saab after taking him on a two-wheeler to a remote area.

The incident unfolded as Saab was returning to Gangavathi from the nearby village around 3 AM on November 26th. He was then taken by a group of bike-borne youngsters who started messing with him, touching his skull cap, and on being scolded, started abusing him.

They took him to an isolated location in Siddikere and subjected him to physical assault, including setting his beard on fire. The assailants not only robbed Saab of his money but also made derogatory comments targeting his community. It was only through the intervention of shepherds in the vicinity that Saab was rescued from the horrifying ordeal.

After hospitalization due to difficulty in breathing, Saab is reported to have been in a better condition. In the Press conference held at his office, SP Vantigodi thanked the people of both communities for cooperating in the matter.
