Lucknow: Police Constable Ranjan Pratap Singh Caught on Camera Verbally Abusing Woman at Station

The woman had gone to the police station to complain about the constable’s molestation, but faced more harassment there.

A video of a police constable verbally assaulting a woman at a police station in Lucknow emerged on social media.

The video, which was reportedly recorded by a bystander on Friday evening, shows the constable, identified as Ranjan Pratap Singh, posted at Sarojini Nagar police station, hurling obscene and derogatory remarks at the woman.

“He (the constable) asked me to come to the police station and said he would help me in my case. He took Rs 2000 from me and also touched me inappropriately,” the woman said, as quoted by Zee News Hindi.

The woman accused the constable of molesting her and had gone to the Vijay Nagar outpost in the capital’s Krishnanagar to lodge a complaint.

“When I went to the Vijaynagar police post to get my money back, he started abusing me and calling me names. He even threatened to kill me,” said the woman.

Instead of getting justice, the woman was met with more abuse and humiliation by the same constable, as she reached the police station. The head post, who was at the scene, tried to intervene and calm down the constable, but refusing to listen, he continued his tirade.

The video is going viral on social media platforms, drawing condemnation from the netizens. As the video came to the notice of the senior police officials, they swung into action and suspended the constable with immediate effect.

“A transaction dispute is going on between constable Ranjan Pratap Singh posted at Sarojninagar Kotwal and the woman. The woman claims that she went to the Vijayanagar police station on Friday to settle a transaction dispute. where the constable asked her to return his belongings,” ADCP South Shashank, who confirmed the suspension of the constable and the initiation of a departmental inquiry, said that the matter was related to a transaction dispute between the two parties.

The woman has also filed a formal complaint against the constable, accusing him of extortion, and verbal assault. In the meantime, DGC South Vineet Jaiswal has urged Krishnanagar Inspector Jitendra Singh to submit a report on the entire incident.
