A government school teacher in Madhya Pradesh’s Burhanpur district has been suspended after being accused of making students perform postures resembling namaz during class. The incident has sparked protests from local groups and prompted an inquiry by the district administration.

The teacher, identified as Jaboor Tadvi, works at the Government Middle School in Deohari village under Shahpur police station. His suspension came after some parents and residents alleged that Hindu students were being asked to perform namaz-like postures under the pretext of yoga and Surya Namaskar.

After receiving complaints, the school’s in-charge principal informed the District Education Officer, who sent a team to investigate. Officials said the teacher was suspended pending inquiry to maintain peace and order while the matter is examined.

Members of the Hindu Jagran Manch also held protests in the village, claiming that religious practices were being mixed with classroom activities.

Tadvi, however, denied the allegations, saying that the students were only practicing Shashankasana, a recognised yoga pose that might have been mistaken for a prayer position. “I was only following the government’s yoga guidelines,” he reportedly said.

The district administration has assured that the investigation will be fair and thorough.
