A madrasa teacher who had been absconding after being booked for allegedly sexually abusing several students has been arrested from Bihar, police said on Thursday.

The accused, identified as A.K. Muhammad, was arrested by a team from Valanchery police station from a remote location in Bihar on Wednesday.

Case Began With One Complaint, Later Expanded to 14 Victims

According to police, the case first came to light on June 16 after a student filed a complaint of sexual harassment against the teacher.

Following the initial complaint, more students came forward with similar allegations. Police said a total of 14 students from the institution have now accused the teacher of sexual abuse.

Officials said the accused fled the state soon after the first FIR was registered.

Arrest in Bihar After Police Tip-Off

Police said they received a tip-off on Saturday that the accused was hiding in a remote area in Bihar. A special team was then sent to track him down.

“He was taken into custody from Bihar and is being brought back after obtaining a transit warrant,” a police official said.

The accused is currently being brought back to Kerala for further legal proceedings.

Investigation Expands, Possible More Cases

Investigators suspect that the accused may have committed similar offences while working in other religious institutions in Kerala.

Police said statements of the victims are being recorded and more cases could be added as the investigation progresses.

Authorities are continuing their probe into the allegations and examining whether there are additional victims connected to the accused.
