Amid a flood of greetings pouring in for Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday, one unusual suggestion stood out. Veteran actor Sudesh Berry proposed opening a bank account in Modi’s name, where every Indian would contribute one rupee as a mark of respect and goodwill.
Berry, known for his work in Bollywood films and television, particularly for his portrayal of King Vichitravirya in the iconic 1988 series Mahabharat, suggested that such a symbolic contribution could turn into a significant fund, given India’s vast population.
“Every Indian should deposit just one rupee in Modiji’s account,” he said, calling it the “best birthday wish” for the Prime Minister.
While Berry’s statement was made in a lighter vein, it has sparked conversations online, with some users calling it an “innovative gesture,” while others questioned the feasibility and purpose of such a fund.
The Prime Minister, who turned 75 this year, received wishes from political leaders, celebrities, and citizens across the country. But Berry’s proposal, pitched as a collective act of gratitude, has added an unusual twist to the day’s celebrations.
This year too, Modi’s birthday inspired some unusual and unconventional tributes across the country. In Varanasi, a group of PM Modi supporters cut a 75-foot-long cake; in Surat, BJP workers organized a blood donation drive named after him; while in Madhya Pradesh, admirers released 75,000 earthen lamps into a river as a symbolic gesture. Another group of devotees planted 75 saplings, hailing it as a “green birthday gift” to the Prime Minister.
