350 Obscene Clips, Multiple Minor Victims: Amravati Police Arrest Teen Mohammad Ayaz for Blackmail and Sexual Exploitation

Police arrest a 19-year-old in Amravati for allegedly exploiting minor girls via social media and blackmailing them with obscene videos.

Police in Maharashtra’s Amravati district have arrested a 19-year-old man, Mohammad Ayaz alias Tanveer, for allegedly luring minor girls into relationships, sexually exploiting them, and blackmailing them using obscene videos.

According to police, the accused allegedly targeted girls through social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Snapchat, promising relationships before taking them to cities like Mumbai and Pune. He is then accused of recording explicit videos without consent and using them to pressure victims into further exploitation.

Officials said the accused was arrested on Saturday (April 11) following a complaint that was also supported by a BJP MP’s memorandum. He was later produced before a court and sent to police custody.

Over 350 videos allegedly recovered, probe expands

Police sources said more than 350 objectionable videos were allegedly recorded, with at least 180 victims being identified in the investigation so far. The videos were reportedly used for blackmail and coercion into prostitution.

Investigators have also seized the accused’s mobile phone, which is being examined for digital evidence. Police are probing whether others were involved in filming or circulating the content.

Two of the accused, including Ayaz and another suspect identified as Uzer Khan, have reportedly confessed during interrogation, according to police officials cited in reports. Three others have also been arrested in connection with the case.

Authorities are also working to remove the videos circulating online and are monitoring accounts involved in resharing them.

“Systematically targeted minors,” says complaint

A memorandum submitted by Rajya Sabha MP Anil Bonde alleged that minors were systematically targeted through online platforms. He has demanded the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to ensure a deeper probe into the case.

Police officials said the investigation is ongoing and all angles, including possible networks involved in distribution of content, are being examined.

Victims hesitant to come forward

Officials said no formal complaints have been filed by victims or families so far due to fear of social stigma and public exposure. Police have urged families to come forward, assuring confidentiality and support services.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Vishal Anand said legal and counselling support will be provided to victims, and their identities will be fully protected.

Administrative action and demolition at accused’s residence

Following the arrest, municipal authorities carried out demolition action at the accused’s residence in Paratwada. A JCB machine was used to remove allegedly illegal structures, including an external staircase.

Heavy police deployment was seen at the site during the operation. Officials said prior notices had been issued regarding encroachment.

Political reaction and state-level attention

The case has drawn attention from political leaders, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who has taken cognisance of the matter, according to state officials.

Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said he had spoken to senior police officials and assured strict action, adding that the case is being treated with seriousness due to its scale and sensitivity.

Investigation continues

Police said the accused remains in custody and further interrogation is underway. Cyber cells are also assisting in tracing digital evidence and removing offensive content from social media platforms.

Authorities have said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests cannot be ruled out as the probe expands.
