Police in Handwara have arrested a man in connection with the sexual exploitation of a minor girl, who was six months pregnant and later died by suicide. The case has sent shockwaves through the region and raised serious concerns about child safety and abuse.
The accused, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, has been charged under Section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 5(J)(II) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which deals with aggravated sexual assault on a minor resulting in pregnancy.
Authorities confirmed that DNA testing has established the accused as the biological father of the unborn child. The confirmation came during the investigation that followed the minor’s tragic death.
Police officials have assured the public that the matter is being handled with the utmost seriousness due to the sensitive and disturbing nature of the case. “Legal proceedings are underway, and justice will be pursued without delay,” an official said.
