Violence erupted in Vijaypur, Madhya Pradesh, hours after polling concluded, when a mob attacked a Dalit colony in Gohta village. The incident occurred late Wednesday night when around 200 attackers allegedly set fire to four houses, pelted stones, and even targeted a transformer, causing damage. Locals also reported that a statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar was desecrated during the attack.

Sheopur SP Virendra Jain confirmed the incident and explained that the police were informed about a dispute between two parties. Upon their arrival, officers found millet husk burnt to ashes at the scene. However, no formal complaint has been filed, and no injuries were reported. Another officer downplayed the significance of the violence, stating that such tensions often arise during elections and that the situation did not cause a “significant disturbance.” He also mentioned that action would only be taken if a formal complaint was lodged. As of Thursday night, no arrests had been made.

Congress state president Jitu Patwari accused BJP workers of instigating the attack on the tribal and Dalit communities, linking the violence to political tensions. In response, BJP state president VD Sharma dismissed the allegations, claiming that Congress resorts to “hooliganism” and “arson” when they are losing elections. Sharma also ridiculed Congress for celebrating victories with symbolic gestures, such as placing a turban on Rahul Gandhi’s head, and blamed the party for blaming the administration and EVMs when facing defeat.
