Assistant Jail Superintendent Firoza Khatoon married former inmate Dharmendra Singh on May 5 in Chhatarpur district through Hindu rituals and Vedic traditions after the two reportedly fell in love during their time at Satna Central Jail, where Singh was serving a life sentence in a 2007 murder case and frequently interacted with Khatoon during her prison duties.

Relationship Began During Jail Duty

According to reports, Dharmendra Singh, a resident of Chandla in Chhatarpur district, was convicted in a 2007 murder case involving the killing of former municipal vice-chairperson Krishna Dutt Dixit.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment and lodged in Satna Central Jail.

During this period, Firoza Khatoon joined the same prison as an assistant jail superintendent and was given responsibility as warrant in-charge.

Officials said Singh often assisted prison staff in warrant-related work, bringing him into regular contact with Khatoon.

“Their professional interactions gradually developed into friendship and later into love,” a jail official said.

Convict Released After 14 Years in Jail

Dharmendra Singh was released around four years ago after serving nearly 14 years in prison, reportedly because of good conduct.

After his release, the couple decided to formalise their relationship through marriage despite social and religious opposition.

Reports said Singh even changed his name on wedding invitation cards to avoid public scrutiny and controversy surrounding the interfaith marriage.

Bride’s Family Stayed Away From Wedding

The wedding ceremony reportedly did not receive support from Firoza Khatoon’s family members, who stayed away from the event.

In their absence, Raj Bahadur Mishra and his wife performed the traditional Hindu ritual of “kanyadaan” during the ceremony.

Members of the Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad were also present at the wedding.
