In Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli, a Muslim man named Firoz Qureshi was ‘lynched’ by a mob. Firoz, who had gone to the Jalalabad area of Ganga Aryanagar for work, was allegedly beaten by Pinky, Pankaj Rajendra, and their associates.

Despite some locals’ efforts to save him, Firoz succumbed to his injuries. Speaking to The Observer Post, his brother, Afzal said, “He went out today, at around 5 pm. He was beaten by a mob and was injured badly. Later, he succumbed to his injuries.”

According to Afzal, Firoz was a scrap worker with no criminal record. He was a family man with three children. “He wasn’t a thief. He didn’t have any cases against him. He was a family man. We can’t understand why he was killed,” he said.

The family has filed a report at the local police station, demanding justice.

“Please get his post-mortem done and take the strictest action against the culprits,” Afzal said.

The police stated that an FIR was registered in the case but no arrests were made. The accused were charged under a section of culpable homicide (BNS-105), and the lynching section of BND was not invoked. The family members had to protest with the dead body in front of the police station to get the FIR registered.
