A Muslim youth who earns his living by selling utensils door to door was allegedly assaulted in Bihar’s Katihar district after being falsely branded as a Bangladeshi.

The victim, identified as Akmal Hussain, said he was attacked while trying to sell utensils in a locality. According to him, the incident began when he went to a house after a woman showed interest in buying his goods. “I was selling utensils. A woman said she would buy my items and asked me to come. When I reached outside her house, a man came, abused me and called me a Bangladeshi. He asked me to show my Aadhaar card,” Akmal said.

Akmal alleged that as he tried to look for his phone, the situation quickly turned violent. “When I was searching for my phone, they suddenly attacked me. More people gathered, and he started saying I was from Bangladesh and that I had come here to rape women. He beat me very badly,” he said.

He claimed he was hit on his head, arms and other parts of his body, and that the attackers also snatched his cash. “They beat me mercilessly. I was injured all over,” he added.

The youth said he has filed a complaint with the police and is seeking justice. Expressing fear and helplessness, Akmal said the attack has affected his ability to earn a living. “I am a poor man. I earn a living for my family by selling utensils. After this incident, how will I go out and work?” he asked.
