Fahim Khan Nagpur

A sedition case has been filed against Fahim Khan, the alleged mastermind behind the March 17 violence in Nagpur. Khan, an active member of the Minorities Democratic Party (MDP), has been arrested and sent to judicial custody until March 21. Along with Khan, five other accused have also been charged in connection with the incident.

According to Lohit Matani, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Nagpur Cyber Crime, the case was registered after some individuals praised the violence and made provocative comments on social media, fueling the riots. The investigation into over 300 social media accounts has led to 140 accounts being identified for objectionable content. The DCP mentioned that the support for the violence appeared to have originated from accounts outside Nagpur, with investigations underway to determine if any of these accounts were based internationally.

The authorities are also examining Fahim Khan’s social media activity, where “objectionable content” was found. Four FIRs have been filed in the case, with more to follow. Over 140 instances of provocative content across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube have been identified, leading to the issuance of notices under the IT Act, 2000, and BNSS, 2023 to take down the content and reveal the identities of the individuals involved.
