Newly Married Muslim Woman Molested on Delhi-Aligarh Train, Husband ‘Arrested’ by GRP Despite Victim’s Allegations

A newly married Muslim woman travelling from Delhi to Aligrah was allegedly molested by four men on Tuesday at midnight. Despite calling for help, the co-passengers remained seated. 

The 22-year-old victim along with her husband was on her way to her in-laws’ house in Aligarh. The couple boarded the train in Delhi. Around midnight, Four men from the special compartment allegedly molested the woman. Upon the husband’s intervention, the assaulters verbally abused him. 

The couple got down at Aligarh railway junction. The assaulters continued to harass the couple and hit the husband with belts. On the platform, when the couple begged for help, people gathered and informed the police. 

The victim alleged, “The miscreants kept staring at me when the train started. When I objected, they tried to touch me. My husband was attacked when he tried to stop them. When we pleaded for help, other passengers watched us silently.” 

Surprisingly, the GRP officers arrested the husband despite her clear allegations against the molesters. The couple’s relatives staged a protest against the police’s action, the police released the husband and registered a complaint at Aligarh GRP police station.

According to the police, Jitu Singh, a local to Usmanpur Khandauli in Agra was arrested. The other three culprits are on the run.
