The National Investigation Agency arrested Anmol Bishnoi today after he was deported from the United States along with nearly two hundred Indian nationals. Anmol is the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and is described by investigators as one of the key handlers of the gang from abroad. Officials said he will be taken to Patiala House Court in Delhi.
Anmol was among the passengers on a special flight carrying two fugitives wanted in Punjab and 197 undocumented Indian migrants. He comes from Fazilka in Punjab and, according to officials, he was directing extortion operations, issuing threats and coordinating tasks for the Bishnoi gang through encrypted channels while living overseas. He was reportedly seen at a Punjabi wedding in California in April 2023.
The NIA said that even while he was in the United States he continued to “run terror syndicates” and carry out “terrorist acts” with the help of gang members operating in India. He is wanted in several major cases, including the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in May 2022 and the killing of Nationalist Congress Party leader and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, who was shot dead in Bandra on October 12 last year. Mumbai Police have used the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act in the Siddique case. Twenty six people linked to the Bishnoi gang have been arrested while Anmol, Shubham Lonkar and Zishan Mohammed Akhtar were named as wanted accused.
The United States Department of Homeland Security had already informed Siddique’s family that Anmol had been removed from the country. In an email, the DHS VINE Service told the family, “This email is to inform you that Anmol Bhisnoi has been removed from the United States by the federal government. The offender was removed on November 18, 2025. It is our hope that this information has been helpful to you.”
Anmol is also accused of being connected to the firing outside actor Salman Khan’s house in Bandra on April 14 last year. He had claimed responsibility for the shooting on Facebook. Sources said around eighteen cases have been registered against him. He left India in April 2022 using a forged passport, travelling with gangster Sachin Thapan. Their route reportedly took them through Nepal, Dubai, Kenya and other countries before they reached the United States.
Investigators say Anmol obtained a fake passport under the name Bhanu Pratap from Faridabad. The document listed his father’s name as Rakesh, although his real father is Lovinder Bishnoi and he is from Dutranwali village in Fazilka. According to the charge sheet in the Moosewala case, both Anmol and Sachin helped plan the murder. Officials believe they left India early to confuse investigators and avoid being directly linked to the killing.
The NIA had already filed a charge sheet against Anmol in March 2023. The agency said, “Investigations established that he had actively aided designated individual terrorist Goldy Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi in the commission of various acts of terrorism in the country during the 2020 to 2023 period.” According to the NIA, Anmol arranged shelter and logistical support for shooters and gang members and continued to extort money from abroad with the help of other gangsters.
The NIA said it is investigating the case as part of a larger effort to break the network connecting terrorists, gangsters and weapons smugglers. Anmol had been missing since 2022 and is the nineteenth accused to be arrested in the alleged terror syndicate led by his brother. A reward of ten lakh rupees had been announced for information that could lead to his arrest.
