India has officially confirmed the launch of ‘Operation Sindoor’, targeting “nine terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK) as a response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack two weeks ago.” The airstrikes were carried out on Wednesday.
Colonel Sofia Qureshi, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri were present at the press briefing to provide details about the operation.
“No military installation was targeted, and till now there are no reports of civilian casualties in Pakistan,” Col. Qureshi stated, addressing the Indian press. She emphasized that the operation was a precise, calculated response to neutralize terror groups active in the region.
This was the first official briefing from the Indian government after the Operation Sindoor airstrikes. The operation was a direct response to the April 27 Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians—many of them tourists. The government has condemned the attack as one of the biggest assaults on Indian civilians since the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri explained that the Pahalgam attack aimed to disrupt tourism and development in Jammu and Kashmir and was part of a larger plan to provoke religious riots within India. He also named The Resistance Front (TRF), a terror group allegedly backed by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), as responsible for carrying out the attack. Misri said that Pakistan has consistently shielded such terror outfits, allowing them to operate freely despite international condemnation.
“Pakistan has a history of shielding terror groups. They have not taken any concrete steps to handle these organizations. Instead, they resort to a blame game,” Misri remarked during the briefing.
The air strikes targeted “specific terror sites linked to the attack”, and India’s response was described as “proportionate, non-escalatory, and responsible.”
The briefing came as tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) continue to escalate, following repeated ceasefire violations and cross-border shelling between India and Pakistan.
