AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging India to send urgent humanitarian aid to Gaza and push for a ceasefire in the region. In his letter, Owaisi accused Israel of “genocide and ethnic cleansing” of Palestinians and called on India to defend Muslim religious rights at Al Aqsa Mosque.

Owaisi said more than 60,000 people have been killed in Gaza and famine-like conditions prevail. He cited UN reports stating that over 1,300 Palestinians have died while searching for food, with children suffering the most. “Given India’s tradition of humanitarian leadership, I urge the government to urgently provide food, medical and relief aid to Gaza through international channels and ensure safe humanitarian access for civilians trapped in the conflict,” Owaisi wrote.

He reminded the Prime Minister of India’s “longstanding commitment” to Palestine, noting the country’s July 24, 2025, statement at the UN Security Council. Referring to the 1948 Genocide Convention, which India has signed, he said it obligates the country to prevent genocide and avoid complicity. “It is imperative that the Government of India demonstrates our commitment towards Palestinians and against genocide and war crimes,” he said.

Owaisi also raised concerns over restrictions at Masjid al-Aqsa, Islam’s third holiest site, condemning “repeated attacks” and limitations on worshippers’ access. He demanded India support aid airdrops, press for a sustained ceasefire, and raise the issue of protecting Al Haram al Sharif as a matter of religious freedom.

The Hyderabad MP said he had planned to raise the “Gaza genocide” issue in Parliament during Zero Hour but alleged that Israel’s actions have included targeted expulsions, civilian killings, and blocking essential aid. He claimed nearly 70% of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure has been destroyed since 2024 and most victims are women and children.

Owaisi criticised the aid distribution system run by an Israeli-American startup as “deadly” and “inadequate,” saying 1,400 people have been killed while trying to access food. He accused Israel of ignoring International Court of Justice orders to prevent genocide and pointed out that its Prime Minister and former Defence Minister face International Criminal Court warrants.

He also highlighted violence in the West Bank, saying nearly 1,000 civilians have been killed since 2023. June 2025, he added, recorded the highest Palestinian injury toll in more than 20 years, with settlers carrying out 757 attacks in the first half of this year alone. Since October 2023, over 5,000 Palestinians — almost half of them children — have been displaced by demolitions and settler violence, he said.
