Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday took a sharp swipe at the Congress after the National Democratic Alliance secured a decisive victory in the Bihar Assembly elections 2025, accusing the party of aligning itself with extremist forces. Addressing BJP workers at the party headquarters in New Delhi, Modi said the Congress had turned into what he described as “Muslim League Maoist Congress,” adding that the party’s internal divisions were widening due to its political approach.

Modi said that a separate faction was emerging within the Congress that was “uncomfortable with this negative politics.” He suggested that the party could witness another major split in the near future. He also mocked the party for its repeated electoral defeats, stating that the total number of Congress MLAs elected across the last six state elections was fewer than the number of NDA legislators elected in Bihar alone.

The NDA, led by the Janata Dal United and the Bharatiya Janata Party, crossed the majority mark of 122 earlier in the day and is set to form the next government in Bihar.

Modi said that even Congress allies had begun to realise that the party was becoming a burden due to its political strategy. “During the Bihar elections, I had said that the ‘naamdar’ of the Congress is practising to drown himself and others by taking a dip in the political pond,” he said, referring to the party leadership.

The Congress recorded one of its poorest performances in Bihar, winning only three seats and leading on six. The party had secured 19 seats in the 2020 elections as part of its alliance with the Rashtriya Janata Dal. The defeat follows a series of setbacks for the party in Delhi, Maharashtra, Odisha, Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh.
