The Social Democratic Party of India announced the launch of its youth wing, Young Democrats, during the Sixth National Delegates’ Conference held in Mangalore on January 22, 2026.
SDPI National Acting President Mohammed Shafi announced the formation of the first National Organising Committee of Young Democrats. Advocate Renu Devi Singh was appointed as the Convener, while K A Mohamed Shameer from Kerala, Thahir Shaikh from Andhra Pradesh, Sayid Aleem Ilahy from Karnataka, Jayaraj Jayan from Kerala and Ali Akbar Sidheqi from West Bengal were named as Joint Conveners.
The National Committee also includes members from across the country, reflecting a broad regional and social representation. These include Manpreet Kour from Uttar Pradesh, Madiha Raza and Sameena Kousar from Karnataka, Rony Shaikh from Jharkhand, Fathima Arshana, Ameena Ismath and Aabida Rasheed from Kerala, Mohammed Ibrahim, Musthakim Molla and Muddassir from West Bengal, Advocate Abdullah Hassan Faizy and S Haneef Khan from Tamil Nadu, Mohammed Danish from New Delhi, and Advocate Adil Hussain from Kerala.
Addressing the gathering, Mohammed Shafi said the youth wing has been formed to actively engage and politicise the country’s youth based on constitutional values and the principles of social democracy. “Young Democrats will work to shape a political vision rooted in social justice, secularism, democracy, minority rights and labour rights,” he said.
He added that the organisation aims to bring young people together around key issues such as education, unemployment, social inequality, environmental protection and constitutional awareness. “Our goal is to nurture youth into a conscious and decisive force that can influence the political future of the country,” Shafi said.
Party leaders said the Young Democrats will provide a democratic platform for youth voices, ideas and protests, and will maintain a strong presence in campus politics and social movements. They also said the organisation will take a clear stand against unconstitutional and anti-democratic tendencies.
The SDPI leadership announced that the Young Democrats will function under a unified national structure and will soon expand to state, district and local units. A detailed organisational framework and future action plan will be announced in the coming months. SDPI National General Secretary (Administration) Mohammed Ashraf Ankajal and National General Secretary (Organisation) Riyaz Farangipete were also present at the conference.
