Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati Booked for Harassing 32 Delhi Students, Evades Police

Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati

Delhi Police has booked self-styled godman Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati, also known as Parth Sarthy, following allegations of sexual harassment by several female students at a management institute in the city. Despite raids and surveillance, the accused remains at large.

The complaint was filed on August 4 at Vasant Kunj North Police Station. Police said Saraswati was a sanchalak, or member of the institute’s management committee. During the inquiry, statements were recorded from 32 female PGDM students under the EWS scholarship at Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management, with 17 alleging that Saraswati used abusive language, sent obscene messages, and made unwanted physical advances. Some faculty members, including women, were also reported to have pressured students to comply with his demands.

A case was registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and 16 victims later deposed before a magistrate. Investigators also found a Volvo car with a forged diplomatic number plate, allegedly used by Saraswati, in the institute’s basement. A separate FIR was filed on August 25, and the vehicle was seized.

The Sringeri-based Sri Sri Jagadguru Shankaracharya Mahasamsthanam Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham, previously associated with Saraswati, has publicly distanced itself from him. The Peetham said, “Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati, formerly known as Swami (Dr.) Parthasarathy, has engaged in activities that are illegal, inappropriate, and detrimental to the interests of our institution. As a result, the Peetham has severed all ties with him.” The statement added that complaints regarding his illegal acts have been lodged with relevant authorities.

The Peetham also clarified that the Sri Sharadha Institute of Indian Management-Research operates under its governance, led by Dr Krishna Venkatesh and other distinguished members, ensuring the welfare of students and uninterrupted educational activities.

Police confirmed that multiple teams are tracing Saraswati and keeping vigil at airports to prevent him from leaving the country. “Teams have been conducting raids at his known hideouts in Delhi and neighbouring states,” an officer said. Investigators are cross-verifying statements from students, faculty, and staff, while collecting digital evidence, including messages and call records.

“The allegations are serious, involving multiple victims, and we are pursuing the case with priority,” the officer added.
